The listing, 1941 Stamped Envelope with "Buy Defense Bonds" has ended.

Today is my one month anniversary on LISTIA... so this is an interesting item to place up for bid on this special day. You don't see this type of item everyday!

This is the TOP half of an envelope mailed on December 26, 1941 from Louisville, Kentucky. As seen in the photos.... it has a 1 and 1/2 cent stamp... it is date stamped with the Postal Stamp and at that time, during WWII... the Post Office printed on the envelope... the "BUY DEFENSE SAVING BONDS AND STAMPS" to help raise funds for the war effort.
Envelope still has the return address written by the sender at that time. This item will be exactly 70 years old on Dec. 26th of this year. Only one month from now.
In very good condition and a great addition to a collectors historical pieces.

I was thinking... this would be a great gift item for someone Born on that exact date and turning 70 years old this year. Maybe you know someone that meets that catagory!

FYI: The bottom of the Envelope was cut away to protect the identity of the recipient of the letter.

Well....I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but.....when you cut the bottom of the envelope off, any value it may have had was basically destroyed. Most any serious collector will tell you, they want the whole thing INTACT. The name and address of someone doesn't matter, unless it's someone famous, of course. Just thought you should know, for what it's worth. No harm meant to your listing.

I thought it would have some effect... but the bottom of the envelopes were damaged in the last half inch anyway.... so I really had no choice. I am not a stamp clollector.... just happened to find these in foreclosure situation. But in todays world... you never know if the exposure to someone's address can come back to bite you later. Anyway.... Thank you and I do appreciate your information and if these aren't worth anything.... not much i can do about it now. Maybe someone will like them the way they are.

ive been a collector of coins paper money and civil war items as well for about 15 years now and by you cutting the envelope you dropped what you could have gotten out of this letter $50 or more to about around $1 now sorry about the info for ya but just to let you know for future listings dont destroy history leave it intact please thankyou and this is not to turn anyone away from your listing its still a nice piece of history to own good luck

Just a note for the future. Place a piece of paper over the name and address...just for the photo. That way it's not plastered all over the internet, yet the winning bidder still receives an intact item. The damage at the bottom doesn't matter to a serious collector. (just gives it more character)

One other note...there ARE a few people that ONLY collect the stamp with the postmark. Hopefully, that's who will see the listing.
