I had to go look because my daughter wears both small and med. It depends I think on who was doing the sewing that day when they were made lol The tag on the inside says M on these though. Hope this helps :) I gave out the measurements above socheck your measurements - if you waist is 26/27 inches then you'll be fine even if you are a little bigger that would be fine (like that time of the month) because these have stretch and could go up a little bigger too.
