Description

The listing, MEMORIES OF A BALLPLAYER: Bill Werber and Baseball in the 1930s has ended.

Bill Werber, once called the best player in the American League by no less a judge than Yankees executive Ed Barrow, is the last man alive who traveled witih the legendary 1927 Yankees. He was Duke University's first All-American basketball player, and was an All-American shortstop as well. His career dimmed by a self-inflicted foot injury, Werber played his last eight professional years in considerable pain but remained a premier third baseman and was a key member of the pennant-winning Cincinnati team of 1939 and the World Series champion Reds of 1940.
