These grow gourds about 5 inches high by 6 inches wide. They are the perfect size for birdhouses,shelter for small pets. You painters can make wonderful creations with these. Or just give one to your favorite teacher.

what is your recommedation for drying these beauties? i see that the hole is made before complete dry..is that way better?

They will dry alot quicker, depends on how much of a hurry your in, thanks

I have done both ways, put them in a dry place till they dry out whole, or cut the hole and let them dry.The seed and insides hold lots of moisture. They dry much quicker doing it this way. I decided to clean the seed out and dry it to paint for my feathered buddies . I like to hang them in my garage so air gets around them till dry. An artist could do some really nice projects with these.

My swan gourd, I hollowed out while green and easy to cut hole, like your apple gourd in photo.

It is almost dry already, I think doing that while they are still green is best, all the outer 'skin' has come off easily already too...
