Ok ladies and gentlemen! For your perusal today I have a lovely necklace that would look lovely around any woman's neck you know whether yours, your wife's, your mothers (a little late for Mother's Day!), your girlfriends, etc.
I picked this up at an Estate Sale and was this told to me by one of the granddaughters: this was given to Grandma by a boyfriend because she had gotten into healing. He told her it was 14 k gold and the stones were Amethyst druzys and Onyx. She wore it with pride and since her neck never tarnished, she thought it to be real and she gladly accepted any crystal he presented her with. They broke up after she found him to be having an affair and giving the same gifts to another. She thought him to be a scoundrel so she took her lot to her jeweler who told her everything was real but "in the raw" and it would take her hundreds of thousands of dollars to cut them into gems. Why the diamond alone would take her probably $5000.00 to get cut into anything worth something she could wear on her finger! Well her jeweler was wrong, it took a lot more but the gemologist took in trade some of the other gems and stones she had along with cash but she didn't remember the value. But she did remember Grandma wore a 5 ct. Diamond ring for years that later became her Moms then later her oldest sister! For insurance purposes it was last valued at $260,000. She gets it next! She thinks the necklace was given to Grams in the late 70's but she's not sure. Now, I got it checked out by my friend whose not a jeweler BUT knows jewelry and has all the test kits and such and this is what he says: Her jewelry is well cared for. It's not 14 k but 14 k plated, and the amethyst druzys are real as is the onyx stone.
It looks good as it is or would look good as I planned to deconstruct it with one amethyst druzys into a ring or a bracelet and the other druzy and onyx stone into a necklace. Whatever you want to do, once you win it it's yours to do what you want!
