The listing, Beautiful Vintage Millefiori Rare contact lens case has ended.
This is a BEAUTIFUL ONE OF A KIND hinged Millefiori Contact Lens case. Gold but don't know if it's plate or solid. I say one of a kind because I've NEVER seen another like it...EVER. And I've gone extensive research on it. I've had it for 12 yrs or so. It Measures 2 1/2 long and 1 1/2 wide and 3/4" high.
The inventor or the lens themselves are below but I can't find anything on the makers of the cases. I didn't clean it in case the winner wants to have the dried solution tested which may help with aging.
I researched and found out contacts were invented by Leonardo da Vinci in (1452-1519) producing the first know sketches (in 1508) and his ideas led to development of the contact lens 350 yrs later. In 1827 Sir John Herschel proposed the idea to make molds of a person eyes for corrective lens but it was more than 50 yrs later that they were actually produced. The first Glass lens were made in 1887.
So since Millefiori was made a long time ago and the opening in the case are shallow I'd take it there were made for Glass lens.
