No idea, It was a gift I never used and never opened. I already have 3 hot spots we use currently so I never even looked at this one.

a hot spot is used for most laptop cell phone usally they are not usb its like the internet you pad so much a month just like the internet

I think of them more as cell phones b/c they mostly come with sim cards but yes I agree. Like most things the more you use the more it cost. That said with my hot spots and as much net as I use(A LOT) I never go over 25$ a month on the ones I have.
