Description

The listing, Purple Oxalis has ended.

This auction is for 12 bulbs of purple oxalis (often called shamrock ). They are from the live plant, I will dig them up after the auction ends. I will remove the leaves, they will die anyway, but will grow back pretty soon. They multiply fast, plant them in groups 3-6 or couple inches apart if you want to make a border. They develop deep purple color in shade or partial shade, in sun, they turn greenish.

This is a great plant for indoors or outdoors, it has beautiful foliage and plenty of dainty blossoms.

Outdoors, it will go dormant when the temperature drops and will come back in the spring. It grows fast, doesn't seed and is not invasive.

It is a type of oxalis called wood sorrel. According to Wikipedia, the Kiowa Indian tribe chewed wood sorrel to alleviate thirst on long trips, that the Potawatomi Indians cooked it with sugar to make a dessert, the Algonquin Indians considered it an aphrodisiac, the Cherokee ate wood sorrel to alleviate mouth sores and a sore throat, and the Iroquois ate wood sorrel to help with cramps, fever and nausea.

I hav these for many years and they. Keep growing like crazy. I am in zone 8a, we have hot summers and these go dormant when temperatures go over 100, then they come back in fall for few months until the first frost. I love their foliage, looks amazing next to green or silver 'neighbors'

Maybe that's what mine are doing because it is very hot here. I live in deep South Tx.
