Description

The listing, RARE Perfect Condition The Tales of Beedle the Bard 1st Edition - Harry Potter UK Edition Bloomsbury has ended.

This is a rare 1st Edition Hardcover collector's edition of The Tales of Beedle the Bard by J.K. Rowling (like I needed to tell you the author, LOL). This version was only available in the U.K., & it is not in print anymore. It was publish by Bloomsbury/The Children's High Level Group in 2008. If you are wondering how I know that this is the first edition, please read my first comment (I ran out of room in the description).

This is the second Beedle the Bard book that I've listed. My last auction was so successful and the winner loved the book so much that I decided to get my hands on another book (thanks to one of my friends who lives in England). This book is in unread, perfect condition. It was actually shipped to me from England. It is printed in recycled paper, so there are a couple of tiny brown spots/fibers on some of the pages throughout the book. The spots are all part of the paper - someone didn't put them there - they are natural and add to the book's character.

I have never read this book! Granted, I haven't thumbed through all the pages, but they all appear to be crease-free, stain-free, dogeared-free, and rip-free. The book looks like it has never been read. This book is probably going to make a Harry Potter fan really happy for Christmas (or just really happy)!

Comes from a smoke-free, hairy pet-free home (I have a snake and gecko, but they can do no harm : ) ).

I will only ship to addresses that have been verified via Listia's shipping address rules (check out Listia rules: Shipping Addresses section or go directly to the form at: http://www.listia.com/account/addresses) & that have been sent to me directly through Listia (& not through e-mail), which can be done after the auction ends. If you are not willing to send me your shipping address directly through Listia, then I cannot ship this to you.

Shipping to US will be done via First Class mail & includes tracking & is FREE.

I don't use GIN unless someone asks me specifically to use it because, well, I usually don't know what to put as a GIN price. Plus, it costs me 50 credits (unless someone decides to use it....then the 50 credits are refunded). And then, if someone decides to use it, Listia takes 10% of the credits. I have used GIN before, but that's because someone asked me to list something specific for a certain GIN price (that was about 2000 credits, of course....I can't use GIN unless it's over 2000 credits).

I'm sorry that you don't have enough credits :( Well, I will be listing tons of jewelry soon (I raided some of my jewelry last night.....seriously, I have WAY too much jewelry that I don't wear. It's ridiculous. And, I have a ridiculous amount of purses too. I need to give some of those away too, and I will be listing them as well). I fanned you back!

You got scammed? What do you mean? Did someone sell you the standard Scholastic U.S. edition instead, claiming that it was the Bloomsbury British edition?

This book was published as three editions: a first edition available only in the U.K. (it is the British edition and it has a blue cover and it was published by Bloomsbury), a standard edition available in the U.S. (it has a brown cover and it was published by Scholastic), and collector's edition printed by Amazon. This book is not one of the very first 7 British handmade editions (it would be worth $3.98 million if it were and I would sell it and retire!) But, it is one of the British first editions, as indicated by the 10 numbers printed at the bottom of the page in the 5th pic: 1 3 5 7 9 10 8 6 4 2 (notice "1" is the first number...this is common with first edition books). This website describes how to the number system works a little bit: http://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/collecting/firstedition.html (it's confusing to know if a book is a first edition because it almost never explicitly states it in a book because that would make too much sense! Instead, you have to know what to look for). And, here is the wikipedia website explaining the different editions of The Tales of Beedle the Bard: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Tales_of_Beedle_the_Bard. These websites are only provided for additional information and are not against Listia's rules. Any questions? Please feel free to ask me :)

I'm actually trying to get this auction featured by Listia, so I guarantee that this is not a scam (I hope that it gets featured....I'm keeping my fingers crossed). I can post a picture of my username next to the book if anyone really wants me to, but if you are familiar with my auctions, I often use this textured cloth table mat as a background to my auctions. Plus, I'm a trusted seller with 100% positive feedback as a seller (as of the date of this comment) : )

Thanks for the info. Last book you listed went over 7000! Hope this one does as good or better for you! (I'm not into Harry Potter, or I would bid. Plus I don't have anywhere near 7,000 credits).

You're right! And, the last one that I listed had a few imperfections in it (bumps on the spine, etc.). Just a few little bumps and scrapes. But, this one is in perfect condition, which is really rare for this book (like, really, really rare), and it's not even at 1000 credits! I didn't even have the last one featured! I'm kind of freaking out about it. :( Esp. since this one could be a first edition, first print, which means that it's worth quite of bit of $ right now (and it will only go up in the future).

Well, I went to the Support link at the bottom of this page and sent a request in to get it featured. The Listia moderator agreed that the book is special enough and authentic (that it's exactly what I say that it is), and decided to feature it. I followed a few rules before I asked to get it featured. http://www.listia.com/support/topic/featured_auctions?from=2 It's free to do, BTW, but Listia will only feature auctions that are extra special or stand out in some way.

Thanks! But, I kind of consider it rude to post information on my auction as to where ppl can get/buy stuff that I am giving away for FREE. The only reason why I didn't hide snorabbit's comment is because there are a lot of sellers on amazon who have a stock photo of this book but who are selling the Scholastic version. I got this book from a friend directly from England, and I know that it's a good copy. I went through A LOT of trouble to get this copy. I don't go on your auctions and tell people where they can buy the stuff you are giving away. So, please don't do it on mine.

True, but, you have to be extremely careful who you buy it from on Amazon and what condition it is in. A lot of sellers will use the blue British cover that I posted above, and sell you the Scholastic published version (I think that's exactly what happened to one of the bidders who commented on this auction when she got scammed). Also, it might not be a 1st/1st copy. Plus, it might not be in perfect condition (or even good condition).

@ snorabbit It's kind of like buying diamond jewelry. A lot people will claim that they are selling solid gold and/or diamond jewelry. But, some of the jewelry is actually CZ. Some of the jewelry is not solid gold (it is gold plated). And, some of the diamonds are of very low quality. (I have bought jewelry which had each of these problems, and boy, was I mad!) I have seen quite a few sellers try to sell this book using this cover, talking about the Children's High Level group and Bloomsbury publishing in the description, but they are actually selling a Scholastic version of the book. I was almost scammed by one of them myself (almost, but not quite...)

@ snorabbit And, I've had these things happen to me after I e-mailed the seller asking the seller if the jewelry was really solid gold or real diamonds before I actually bought the jewelry. Sellers lie, or they don't really know what they are selling. : (

Oh, OK. IDK? Could be? Or, maybe it's an antique book thing? I seriously just don't know! The link for the first edition, first print copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard that is being sold for over $400 doesn't have a picture of the copyright page. I wish that it did because that would really help me out. But, then again, that would probably just make things too easy for me. :)

Oh, and I mean all of the Harry Potter first edition UK (Bloomsbury) published hardcover books are now worth quite a bit of money (and, like I said in description, this is a hardcover book). I'm not including paperback books.

Well, I bet that you can find this book for cheaper, like on E-bay or something. But, I'm also sure that it will increase in value as time goes on (pretty much all Harry Potter first edition UK published books are now worth a couple hundred bucks, especially the earlier ones).

Here is another website stating that supports everything that I've stated so far: http://www.alibris.com/blog/alibris/identifying-first-edition-books-for-beginners (you might have to remove a space in the URL for it to work....Listia sometimes puts spaces in between URLs). Again, it states, "Often, if the copyright page says nothing about the printing history, it is a first edition. In other words, unless it states second or later printing, you can assume that it's a first edition." (taken off of the website). So, yeah, I think that this book might actually be a first edition, first print book, which means that it's worth a whole lot more than free. Like, over $400! http://www.abebooks.com/Tales-Beedle-Bard-Standard-Edition-Sothebys/2339339143/bd (I probably shouldn't be giving it away, actually. I probably should have sold it instead. Oh well).

According to this website, there is no designation for a first printing on a book's copyright page: http://www.emptymirrorbooks.com/collecting/firstedition.html There are only designations for "second and third printings" or a designation for "later printing" and so on. Well, I researched the issue quite a bit, and I couldn't find anything that said that a first printing will be stated in a book (only websites that said second or third prints will be identified). It's not that I'm trying to be argumentative, but I really am now curious as to if this book is a first edition, first print book (it very well could be, according to all of my research). Let's put it this way: I know that this is a first edition book. I'm not 100% convinced that it's not a first print book, so it could also be a first print book. There is nothing on the copyright page stating otherwise. If you can find a guide or something stating that a first print edition is stated on the copyright page, I would be really grateful.
