Two good questions. First, I am really good at finding deals - I am not, however, all that electronic or gaming-savvy. So, I've never tried this product before, but I trust Maxell. Second, I"ll read the instructions from the back, which probably answer your first question: Insert the disc into the player with the graphics side up; select... I assume, then, that there is a lens in your ps3, and it cleans that lens - similar to a DVD or VHS cleaner where you insert another DVD or VHS to clean the interior of the machine.

As for your warranty, you could call the manufacturer or call a store that sells PS3's and other such gaming systems.
