This pretty little abalone brooch is Taxco silver. It is stamped on the back with an Eagle 3 mark, "Mecho in Me..." (part of the stamp is too faint to read, I'm sure it said Mexico). Taxco 925, and the initials SJB (or SJR, not sure).
My research tells me that this was made between 1950 and the early 1970's. The Eagle marks were used from 1948-1980. The number 3 in the eagle is correct for Taxco. The 925 is an incised mark, which was used from 1950 on. The eagle looks to be the "silhouette" style, which would indicate an age between 1955 to the late sixties or early 70's.
It is difficult to read the stamps in the photo, but I have viewed them with a jeweler's loupe to verify their content.
