Description

The listing, ~"Alabama & Y2K, A New Beginning"~Pamphlet~Year 2000 Panic?~This Would Help!~ has ended.

I think this is kind of fun; it's a pamphlet from 12 or 13 years ago, around year 1999-2000. It was published by the State of Alabama in case the terrors of the New Millenium were to unfold, as NO ONE KNEW what would happen when the year began.

Many said that ALL computers would freak out and cause problems if not stop working entirely, because all the computer dates were not sufficiently set to accomodate the century-turning mark of year 2000.

I mean, after all, when I was a teen (many moons ago), the novel by George Orwell called "1984," was considered to be a herald of the far away future...so it was not inconceivable that bad things might occur when a year marker turns over a new "thousand" -year mark.

The Alabama Emergency Management Agency in Clanton, Alabama produced this booklet to keep everyone's worst fears in check. The last 3 pages are for "Notes." LOL. There are a lot of agency contacts/information, as well as ways to make sure your equipment is "Year 2000 Compliant." This could include computers, airlines, VCR's, security systems, and "other time/dated applications." The President's Council on Year 2000 Conversion, as well as FEMA, the Nat'l Guard, etc, would be ready too!

I remember people putting up fences and stocking away food and water. Some thought it would really be scary, or that the world would end!

I feel this will become a classic collectable in years to come. It's the only one I have. The cover shows only a little shelf wear, but the pamphlet basically is in great condition.

I'll pick up the tab for the shipping cost; Media Mail or First Class most likely, depends on cost. So, it's FREE for the winning bidder!

Thanks for looking, and happy bidding! :~)
