This is a claddagh ring.. I have one that actually came from Ireland that I wear always.. =-).. I'm married but I wear it on my other hand facing in, of course...
It's Irish and it has 'symbols'
Worn w/ heart facing finger tip shows the person is available.
Worn heart pointing to hand, showing person is taken/involved, etc.
Worn on the ring finger, person is married/engaged

Definitely a Claddagh ring. There is a whole line of Celtic jewelry, this being the most noted. Very nice :)

If the undertone to the red is yellow or brown, it is a garnet; if the undertone is blue, it is a ruby.
