Description

The listing, 160GB external SATA hard drive has ended.

this is for a western digital external hard drive part of the label on the back is torn but the part of the model number i can read is thus, WD1600XM the last part is gone. as the pic shows the hard drive IS included, and it DOES turn on, but for some reason none of my computers will recognize it. i am including the cord for it approx 4 inches in length.
im not going to lower the days and no i do not ship outside of the continental united states. it will be free shipping i will use a small flat rate box so items NORMALLY get to the winner within 4 days max, but with christmas comming it may be delayed by the post office. i also ALWAYS do delivery confirmation so you will have a tracking number.
if the winner can get the hard drive to recognize a 160GB hard drive wether they use it for external or put it into a laptop (it is standard laptop size hard drive) is up to the winner. ask whatever you would like, if i can answer the questions i will do so gladly, thank you much and good luck all

Worst comes to worst you can just take that drive out and put another in. They use full size pc sata drives. Your more paying for the adapter and case set up then anything, cause internal hard drives are a dime a dozen. If it has problems just take it out and pop a 1TB internal in there and your good to go. I like these, I have a couple, plus my internal HD inside my pc and laptop themselves, which I always upgrade. Im sitting on about 3+ TB. Nevermind all my cloud drive storage too. One can never have too much storage.

you are close, this particular one is a LAPTOP hard drive size not full desktop size. but yes it is very easily replaced the board just slides off the hard drive and you can then replace it with a new sata laptop hard drive of your choice.

Correct, my bad. I didnt see this was a portable one that didnt have to be plugged in to its own power. The full size stay at home ones that I have are desktop HD. I have 1 250GB portable that i use with the laptop, that uses a laptop drive, its small like this one. Those are even better cause you can use the computers usb port to power then, no plug needed.

yup and i am including the only cord needed although it is only about 4 inches long. once that USB is plugged in it powers on. but like i said neither my laptop nor my home built computer recognizes it so i have no clue, i cant find any driver for it and comments said windows should auto recognize it. so if whoever wins it can get it working then i applaud y'all

a hand built PC, but i only have XP pro on it so that may be why i dont know, i know it says online that those should auto recognize if using vista and above, but dont know, it never did on mine. the fact that it still powers on is the only reason that i posted it on here for someone that knows more then me about these things, hopefully whoever wins will be able to get it to work properly. thats why i stated it AS/IS on the description cause i cant get it to work so i dont know if it does work propperly or not.

reminder to all i am unsure if this works or not, it was given to me and since it never recognized on my computers i cannot verify if it works or not, i know it powers on fine and dandy, but like i said before it doesnt recognize so i dunno if the drive itself works :-) just thought i would put that in here to let everyone know they are bidding on an AS/IS item

Depends on the message you get from your computer are they saying it is a generic void drive or are they just not seeing it?

shouldnt need to check jumpers. This is an external hard drive should auto be set to slave!

No problem Zardon I really want this dock so bad! I could use it for all the files I need to transport in an average day! I would replace the drive internally with something else a little larger though!

well i wish you luck if yu decide to bid :-) and you are more then welcome to replace the inner hard drive if ya win heh like i said i cant get the thing to recognize like i said above i dont know if its bad or if the hard drive is bad, or if its just my homemade computers that cant recognize em i dont know, its just good to go to someone who knows a little more then myself :-)

Ahhh...it has been tinkered with (opened up)...sticker (VOID warranty) has been cut...Probably shorted the circuit board by putting a screwdriver on it while it was still plugged in....too bad.
Dec 14th, 2011 at 12:05:17 PM PST by
Original
no, im not that stupid, there was not a sticker sealing it, and im not dumb enough to stick anything metal against a circuit board. i am a nerd just not nerdy enough to figure out whats the matter with it, and if the board was not working at all the thing wouldnt power up i took those pics the day i posted it and the light turned on shows it still powers up.

and also the thing is like 5 years old or so prolly, so warranty wouldnt be valid to begin with
