Description

The listing, Old Clock made in West Germany has ended.

very old clock made in west germany by Houser. This clock has key and stands alone or can be hung on wall. Is not running but can be with a few tweaks as all mechanical moves. I think the wire in back needs a weight for it to work, maybe a small washer? It was working fine before being stored, so I think the little weight inside is missing. When you move the wire in back all gears work, just needs something on it to weigh it on back, unseen area, am packing well and including tracking so am asking for shipping at least.

I was here at the beginning and I am here at the end. My wife fell in love with this clock and because she has dedicated herself to my father during the two plus months in the hospital 100 miles from home, I feel she really needs this clock. Thanks for listing it.

I love this clock and will be bidding on it closer to auction end. I was also wondering if you were going to auction one your Mothers cuckoo clocks you mentioned playing with. Mine was stolen and they dropped the maple leaf pendulum so I can fix this one as soon as I win it. But I would really love to have another cuckoo clock but they are way out of my price range to buy one out right. Love your auctions. Thanks for sharing...

Excellent! Pine cone is good.
No desire to sniff anything! Neither dog nor Mr. Wesson, Smith or Colt.
plastic bag with quarters will work as pendulum in an emergency.
Great deal any which way!
cheers

Doesn't look over wound at all. In fact she isn't wound at all. Appears the main spring is fully uncoiled, but distorted to one side. It could mean that it is either broken or it is no longer attached to the housing. How about that missing pendulum? You said you stored it, can you remember anything hanging from it? Something round maybe or was it more like a carved wooden leaf? Would be nice to know, but if you can't because of the old folk disease "CRS Sysndrome" (Can't Remember Sh_t) , then so be it. ...Oldcantankerousdude....
love that handle baby!
I'm your latest groupie, ha!

well groupie, its been in a trunk for years, gonna go get it out and take a look......ok my crs is kicking in. first this was all i had but now, thinking about the old coo coo clocks there SHOULD be a pendulum on this hook in the back, mothers was shaped like a pine cone....so it is missing the pendulum. ok, spring is NOT broken as far as i can see, overwound if anything. It's made with lightweight wood. i'd say a pendulum could be whittled for it pretty easily, lol, but then im a whittler and no, im not gonna whittle one, i'd keep it mysel i i did. Now that I have explained all the defects, if anyone wants to withdraw their bids let me know.........i'll figure it out. Don't want anyone sniffing around my back door in the middle of the nite over a dang clock, lol, anyway, I pack.......so there.

but when you move the bar sideways back and forth all the gears work, it does appear to be wound as much as you can, but can be unwound by repetedly moving the bar i think since the gears all work.
Dec 11th, 2011 at 9:55:34 AM PST by
Original
you can see the bar on the back of the mechanism, it does not show when the clock is displayed, i just thought it needed a washer or weight of somekind on it. the coo coo clocks used the hanging pine cones to give it weight, this does not, it had to have had a weight on that bar of somekind. a bolt or washer is all i could think of. i hate to play too much with it, as i get aggravated, lol, dont' want to damage it.
Dec 11th, 2011 at 9:54:01 AM PST by
Original
is there a place inside with the gears where a weight would be? It's not over wound?
Dec 11th, 2011 at 8:25:47 AM PST by
Original
it mite be....am not sure....however when the bar in back is moved back and forth it moves the gears so is not stuck i don't think. from my experience, which is little but i played with my mothers black forest coo coo clocks, the weight in the back kept them ticking, it has the bar with the hook hanging down, but nothing on it to weigh it. sorry i cant describe better, am just trying to be honest as able.
