Yummy! Yummy! Today you are considering the Roma tomato, also called the Italian plum. The Roma tomato has an elongated oval, egg or pear shape. Roma tomatoes have firm, dense, meaty flesh, and few seeds. Romas have less water content and more pulp than other varieties. This means they break down nicely into tomato sauce and are good candidates for canning, sun- or oven-drying and making tomato paste. Sliced Roma tomato rounds work well as a pizza topping, because they hold their shape and their minimal seeds won't make the pizza soggy.

If you are a fan of fresh tomato sauce, you should be growing roma tomatoes in your garden. A roma tomato is a paste tomato. Paste tomatoes generally have a thicker fruit wall, fewer seeds and a denser but more grainy flesh. Roma tomatoes tend to be oblong in shape and heavy for their size.
Roma tomatoes are determinate, which means that the fruit ripens at one time, rather than continually through the season. While they can be eaten raw, they are at their best when they are cooked.
Open Air Pollinated, NO PESTICIDES USED, grown in my Indiana garden.
