The listing, West Virginia Coal Scrip *Cool Old Collectable coin *Free Shipping has ended.

These are pretty neat! I found this at the local coin shop the other day. I did a little research and found these are coal scrip. They were used by coal company's to pay workers to be used at stores that where generally local stores owned by the coal companies as well. Or for loans between payday. From what I can gather this coins from right up the road from me actually! Wellsburg WV is less than half hr drive from my house! Prob why I found it here at coin shop. But it's from late 1800's. It's from the Brooke County Store in Wellsburg WV. (coal mining community and area. I was born and raised in this area) it was made by Osborne Register Company of Cincinnati, Ohio. It's also imprinted on rev of token. I was unable to get a clear pic.
I found these on another auction site for $6-$20+ each with bidders. So they must be collectable. So I listed it for your consideration. It has very minimal circulation as you can see in pics. All lettering and markings are clear are strong. Coin has hole punched. All these coal scrips have different shapes of holes. Didn't research on that. Maybe you can after receiving! Always fun!

No it's not broken. I said in description that all the coal scrip coins have odd/different shaped holes punched in them. Don't know the reason
