Folklore♥ He Loves Me...He Loves Me Not
"...worn by young men in love; if the flower faded too quickly, it was taken as a sign that the man's love was not returned."
Fast germination and easy growing bachelor buttons are native to Europe but have suffered distress for the last 50 years due to loss of their natural field habitats. The UK reports only 3 sites out of 264 as still existing and are working to bring the little flower back from "the brink" of extinction.
The good news: the multi-tasking flower of 'loves intent,' has been naturalized in the U.S. and Australia and is once again thriving in gardens large and small.
Edible: Add raw or dried petals to salads as a garnish. Add to deserts for decorative and vivid color. Dried leaves are used in tea.
Annual: re-seeding
All soil types.
Full Sun: *will not grow in the shade.
Start indoors 8 weeks early or plant in situ during April.
