it is no dirt potting soil. or you can use it in a vase with cut flowers, it holds water and waters the plant and stuff, when they start to shrink you add more water to them.people even let there kids play with them the longer they sit in water the bigger they get. sorry did no mean to write a book

you take and put them in a glass add water to them they absorb the water and get big you put your plant in it bamboo or baby spider plants. i have a few things rooting in them,just add water to them when you see them shrinking. does that help
