Three musical boxes (built by an inmate of Darthmore prison) hold the clues to the location of stolen money making plates, and it's up to Sherlock Holmes (Basil Rathbone) and his trusty sidekick Dr. Watson (Nigel Bruce) to piece together the clues before the plates fall into the hands of villains (who would use them to flood England with phony five pound notes and undermine the British economy).
