The listing, Organic Soybeans/Edamame Seeds has ended.
I'm just harvesting the pods now and would like to share some with you. I am through canning and freezing for the year and now I am harvesting the left over pods for next year. You will receive 24 organic soybean/edamame seeds. They are ready for planting next spring. So grab them up while I have them and store them in a cool dry place.
Questions & Comments
Thankyou soooo much for the info. Fanned and watching again.
Great ! I started growing after buying some from an organic store. They were so expensive that I decided to start growing my own. One seed grows a plant where you can harvest up to 50 pods. I make my own tofu as well as use the beans in different foods. Keep in touch :-)
there is no organic store near me, I went to the farm supply store and theirs had funky pick stuff on them, I assumed it was pesticide so I didn't bother getting any and yes they were very expensive
np. I have the recipe. Do you have a food processor or a blender? That and two large pots (at least 3 qt capacity). I just need to type up the recipe to make the soy milk. Once you make soymilk you can make tofu as well. I have been doing this for years now and it is so easy; once you have made it you will understand and wonder why the stores charge so much !! There is no waste. You use the beans to make the soy milk, and then you can split the milk and use some for the tofu. The left over bean pulp (mashed) can be used in soups, cassaroles, chili :-) and I usually share with the parrots. Merry Christmas !!
np I will give you the recipe. Sorry, I posted under the wrong comment. The beans should not have any coating on them... ? I am glad you walked away. You don't want to buy them yet at the store. You want to ensure they are fresh from this years crop. They are best when planted late in the summer. They are self pollinating and require little tending. I rototil once in the fall , once in the spring, then fertilize and rototil. After about ten days I plant and leave them alone. When the edmame pods are ready I pick what I want and leave the rest to go to seed. The way the pods are made I don't need to be concerned about pests. ** I rototil three times to get rid of pests and it prevents weeds from taking over. You don't need to; it just keeps the pests from getting the tomatoes, etc.
I have a very small yard which you would not believe, I am turning into a total garden this spring. This is the tiniest yard I've ever had, I had a small garden the first year I was here just 2 rows around the fence line. Then fostered a dog in very late summer and he wrecked the grass for good, So it has to be totally tilled anyway now and I get no benefit from replanting grass :/ lol
THIS WILL BE IDEAL FOR YOU. They grow a cpl feet tall and have lovely blue/lavender flowers at first. Then they dry on the stalk, for about a month, You will know they are ready when the pods are very dry and start to curl. Can you find out the total square footage your garden will be? This will give me an idea how many seeds you will be able to plant. They would be lovely along a fence anyway.
Well I am using a verity of methods of growing spaces, vertical , barrels, split bags love all the information you have thanks, I plan to blog this experience as well you know the urban garden type :)
this will do best in plain ol' soil. Don't waste 'good' soil on these where you could be growing your tomatoes, beans, carrots, etc. Oh, FYI I grew carrots in large pots and they did great! I had my grandaughter helping me and she put way too many seeds in the pot. (we did a potted garden just for her that year). Well, we had trays under the pots to ensure they had enough moisture an the carrots were amazing. When they were ready I just grabbed hold and pulled them all out. They were long and straight and there was very little soil left because the carrots took over. I know you are not supposed to do it this way but they did amazing. Sounds like you will have fun. I went to a lot of nurseries and they gave me free containers. They also let me have their starter plants that were too old to sell or looked like they were not going to make it. I took them home and they did great. The pots were very handy to grow seeds in and for starter plants.
