Synopsis : A chronicle of the Cristeros War (1926-1929), a popular revolt against efforts by the Mexican government to stamp out the Catholic Church. Seeking professional leadership, the rebels hire General Gorostieta, a retired military man who, ironically, is an atheist, but finds himself inspired by the dedication and passion of the priests and peasants he molds into an army.
