The listing, Civil War era Minie ball Bullet Mold & Bullet *NICE*!! FREE Shipping!! :) has ended.
Great piece of museum-grade Civil War memorabilia!! This minie ball bullet mold comes with matching sized minie ball!! (I don't know the caliber) There are no markings on the mold. Would fit nicely into a collection; would also make a great display piece. As with all my listings, shipping is FREE in the U.S. Thank-you for your interest and your bids--Good Luck!! :)
Might have to win this in case the world goes to hell and tarnation in 2012. So what's the diameter, J? Have to see if I have any blackpowder tools that could use it?
I am afraid that if the guy who sold that to you said it was for a minnie ball he is mistaken. A minnie ball is not made with that type of mold, and it is shaped like a bullet that you would see today, without the brass. The minnie balls that were use in the civil war came in cartridges with wadding, and powder, wrapped in a paper case, when you see a civil war soldier bite the top of a cartridge it is one of those. That is a musket ball mold for a non rifled musket barrel and just might date to around the 1830s or 40s, and may have went to mexico and back. In other words it is older and might be more valuable, it looks mint. Great piece of history.
hi have you had it verified.and dated to the Civil War time period..AND/OR paper work for that peace. I just don't know that much about that war. Credits seem low for a war time peace like this..
point of correction needed for @crittersmom: american calibers are not metric. 50 caliber is 1/2 inch diameter bullet, .45 = 45/100 of an inch etc. 7.62mm is roughly 30 caliber (0.3056"). 5.56mm is 223 caliber (0.223") etc.
