Description
The listing, CueCat scanner has ended.
This is a handy tool to scan in your books, especially if you use LibraryThing.com to keep track. Google CueCat for more info! Plugs into a USB port, otherwise it's not too fussy. Sorry no GIN.
Questions & Comments
The cuecat scanner behaves like an additional keyboard, and when you scan an item it reads then and puts them in the search field- It works fine in windows 10 and with no drivers, I presume it is using your generic keyboard driver that comes with Windows. I just plugged it in and scanned a book into Librarything's search field.
I then scanned a box of tuna spread, into Amazon, and "BUMBLE BEE Snack on the Run! Tuna Salad with Crackers Kit, 3.5 Ounce" came up for $1.29 each. I scanned a box of Triscuits into RestlessMouse.com and the numbers came up, but they don't sell triscuits.
It should be noted that if you switch back and forth between your keyboard and the scanner a lot it's not as effective, because you have to unplug and plug it back in sometimes to reset the Cuecat. But it is very useful if you are scanning a lot of items in a row, such as a CD or book collection, or into some sort of pantry inventory thing? It's a very simple device, and if you can get over the silly cat design, handy to have around.
There is an older version with a round connector on it, this one is USB.
Even if you don't plan to use Librarything, there is helpful information regarding this device on there. Apparently I paid them like $17 for mine a few years ago, kinda pricey but it was also to support their site.
