when you bought it did it come with a phone number...did you pay something like $19.95 for the MagicJack w/one year service? or is it just the hardware itself?
I paid the $19.95 and got the magic jack. Bought it about 2 or 3 years ago and never used it. Don't remember if they had given a number or not. Don't recall ever having on. I would suspect that installing it would run software and give the number. Not sure how it really works
Honestly, I've heard this is one of the cheapest way to call friends and relatives that are overseas. Supposedly, you set up a local number, get it to your friends and now they can stay in contact without resorting to calling cards, etc.
I'm pretty sure lots of folks that are traveling this summer might consider it.
Yes it is $20 for a year of service. there are free phones for pc but require headphones and mic. That would be icall or mediaring talk. But magic jacks connects usb, then hook a regular phone up to it. Has voicemail, sms and more.
I have Magic Jack and I love it. I paid $29.95 for this box only with 30 days free trial if you buy it directly from magic jack website. After the 30 days, if you want to keep it, then you paid $19.95 for one year of service. You will get free local and long distance call, free directory assistance, free phone number, free voice mail, free call waiting, free caller ID. You need a regular handset phone that you connect to this box and then connect the other end to a usb port in your computer. They send you a list of the available phone numbers in the area where you live. I already signed for 5 years for $69.95 almost what I paid monthly only for the home service and Internet. I loved it, the only thing is that you need to have your computer on and be in the internet in order to call or receive calls but the voice mail will work anyway and get the messages even if the computer is off.
You can call US and Canada. I used to call my family in Puerto Rico and I don't have to use my cell phone minutes. Also, you can take it with you when you travel and make calls from your computer.
