Size 6 CHILD (age - 5-6-7), or preteen, (aged 8-9-10-11-12) or teen (aged 13+)?

I know it is a size 6, but sizes go from 0 to about 13 (infant to about age 8), then start again at 00-0-to size 13+ for preteens, and teens) So there's the potential for at least two "girl's size 6" in that range of sizes, a small young child size 6, and an older pre teen/teen size 6. I can't tell if they're smaller, or larger just by looking at them. So, I just wanted to be sure which it was, rather than end up with something way too big for a young child. I once bid on a pair of pants with a T after the size. I thought it meant "tall" it turns out it meant "teen". The pants were a 28 inch inseam, when I need a 34-36" inseam, so that was wasted credits. Shipping was too much to pay for me to relist them. Since then, I like to be absolutely sure, what sizes things are.
