I have lived in Florida also, and I don't see why not, they grow in Afghanhistan and Turkey etc., and are a hot climate flower.

According to this these poppies grow about anywhere = It is a hardy annual, sprouting in Autumn or Spring, flowering in Summer and shedding its seeds again in Autumn. Its flowers range in color from white to purple and any shade of red or pink in between. It is native to South-East Europe and Western Asia, but has spread throughout Europe and Asia, where it grows in cultivation and in a wild state, often as a weed. It has been introduced to most of the rest of the world, including North and South America.
