It app rears to be never used.... I found it in my dads office when cleaning out the house.. My husband tested it and worked fine.

You mean that it takes "Button Cell" batteries, not "Watch Batteries". "Watch Battery" is an unofficial name based on only SOME of the things they go into.

They are called Button Cell because they all, more or less, look like buttons. Thin and Round. There are literally thousands of different kinds and sizes. The number that Steve89z gave, 2032, is a common model with 3 volts. Other common, yet completely different, models are the LR60 and LR44, each having 1.5 volts.

Though different button cell batteries can look exactly the same, yet have wildly different specs. Which is why the model# is so important.

The number will be on the completely flat side, or top of yhe battery

Hubby said he put a brand new batterie in it. He only remembers that the number started with a 2.
