kinda like a suction cup , here are what the instructions say:

*for best results pores should be open, to open use warm water or steam
1. remove any make-up/ do not use when skin is coated with lotion or soap
2. wet skin slightly with water
3.move product over tip of nose in direction of arrows approx 1 min.
also has facial cup for doing other areas of face
