If you are an impatient gardener and want to see bursts of vibrant color very early in the season, California Bluebell is the plant for your garden. An early bloomer, flowering commences in late February and carries through into June, providing lovely color while the rest of your garden develops and grows. California Bluebell is an annual flowering plant that comes to live with exquisite deep blue cup shaped flowers and bright yellow stamen. It compares in appearance to African Violets. This sweet annual grows to less than 24”, most time ranging from 10” to 15” in height. California Bluebell loves full sun, and prefers sandy or well drained soil. Seeds are packaged and germination tested for current year.

This is the type of annual you want to plant in large clusters to really create a showcase of color and interest. This plant is also perfect for pathways, garden borders and as container accents.
Blooms February through June
Grows to a height of 8 to 24 inches
Plant seeds at a depth of 1/16 inch
Germination is 2 to 4 weeks

Ty, i have lived here over 20 years and now my husband just rolls his eyes when i plant some thing else ! i have in mind this spring for a horse shoe shaped flower bed along a fence row , but will take until march to get the nerve to tell him ! ha ! ha !

luck you ! you are a 10. You can plant many spring flowers from September- December. Blue Bell, poppy's snapdragon, lots of widlflowers. Look for flowers that bring early blooms, Feb & March to have some of the first spring bloomers around !
Just keep in mind to water if you are having a dry winter.

I have you in zones 9 & 10 would have to have your town or a close big city. I know for the blue bell, they can't stand up to temps below 20 for more than a few days,

yes, they are a cool weather plant. You can expect them to come up around butter cups each year. I would mulch with leaves the first year or 2. I have several that make good container plants. Be sure, you don't have to get them from me, that they are perennials and you can have just about any flower in a pot garden..
