I'm not sure what thickness would be considered 'thick'. Pics 2 & 5 show the thickness of the band though. :0)

I'm sorry, but I have to ask, is this a working watch?(never take anything for granted!) and is it water proof?

Yes, this watch is brand new, and works fine. Unfortunately, the watch isn't water resistant. If you're looking for a "water proof" kind of watch, that's a different type of watch all together. That would be more of a swimmers watch, with jelly type bands and silicone washer rings on the inside, so no water can get in. I hope this helps! :0)
