and many more bizarre backwoods characters!!
The single-panel gag cartoon (with longer-form comics on Sunday) was a daily look at Toonerville, situated in what are now called the suburbs. Central to the strip was the rickety little trolley called the "Toonerville Trolley that met all the trains," driven in a frenzy by the grizzly old "Skipper" to meet each commuter train as it arrived in town. A few of the many richly formed characters included the Terrible-Tempered Truman, the Physically Powerful Katrinka, Little Woo-Woo Wortle, Aunt Eppie Hogg (The Fattest Lady in 3 Counties) and Mickey McGuire, the town bully. Moviegoers were first introduced to Rooney as Mickey McGuire (character in Toonerville Trolly cartoon strip) at the precocious age of seven, when he kicked off a dizzying run of shorts playing a scrappy kid named Mickey McGuire. Little did they know at the time just how long that relationship would last.!! The McGuire two-reelers proved to be such catnip for audiences that Rooney would be given a contract by Louis B. Mayer at MGM Rooney got his movie start here.Rare book in wonderful condition with just a short tear at top of great dustjacket -- there are some shadow maybe on my photos--inside book like new (1972 from 1920s-1930s output of Fontiane 's output.
