Description

The listing, 14.1" Laptop with WiFi and Bluetooth - IBM Thinkpad T30 - great condition - Bonus items with GIN! has ended.

Someone here is going to get a nice laptop! Woot!

IBM Thinkpad T30. Nice clear 14.1" display, Bluetooth and WiFi, solid construction and proven ThinkPad durability. Great for web browsing, Microsoft Office, playing DVDs, etc. I used it mainly with Streets and Trips for garage sale GPS navigation (using my cellphone as a Bluetooth GPS transmitter)

Auction includes:
IBM Thinkpad T30 notebook with DVD-ROM, WiFi, Bluetooth.
(2) Laptop power supplies / chargers

I will include the following only if "Get It Now" is used:
* Docking station / port replicator (so you can easily use this laptop with your full-size monitor, keyboard, and mouse)
* Floppy drive (swappable in the laptop Ultrabay or docking station Ultrabay)
* Laptop backpack (shock-resistant with an old-school Apple Computer logo!)

Everything you ever wanted to know about the Thinkpad T30:
http://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/Category:T30

The only problems are: (and I am trying to be as complete as possible)

1. Left touchpad mouse button is missing (see photos).
Solution: You can still left-click with the Trackpoint (red) left mouse button, or just tap the touchpad itself for a left-click (my preferred method). A replacement UltraNav touchpad assembly (with full palmrest) is about $7 shipped on eBay but this works just fine as-is and I never felt it needed to be replaced.

2. Battery life is only about 30% (30 minutes).
Solution 2. Buy a new battery. (100% capacity batteries are $13 shipped on eBay, see item 330657702794) But why bother? I'll just include TWO chargers in case you want to move from room to room easily. Keep one in the family room, one in the bedroom. Or one at home, one in the office.

3. Backlight dims/brightens occasionally. It doesn't turn off, it just gets a little dimmer from time to time. (Most people haven't noticed but I'm SUPER picky). Seems to level out pretty quickly.

FREE shipping!

Can you upgrade the XP to SP3? Windows no longer supports SP2.

I haven't used it in a while so it's still on SP2. I will look into upgrading soon. We have a baby on the way (possibly today!) so please be patient. Thanks!

I'm looking for my FIRST laptop and don't need a super delux everything blingo type - cause I'm only going to do Nascar, and search the web. I LOVE your pictures! You really show everything ... seems you are the type of auction person I think we come to Listia for! Great auction!

how old is it?

The bright/dim thing is a power consumption problem. I had that on my laptop

Hey, that's a GREAT tip! I removed the battery and the flicker stopped! I'm pretty sure that the power adapter isn't powerful enough to run the system AND charge the battery. I'm going to check to see if I can find a more powerful adapter tomorrow. I've had the system about 4 years but I'm not sure when it came out. Thanks!!

Can a pugin mouse work instead???
so can it work pugin the charger????
how old is it ???

You wouldn't need to -- you can already move the mouse pointer with the Trackpoint (the little red eraser head thing between the G and H keys) and the touchpad. The only thing that doesn't work is the mouse button below the touchpad (but you can use the other left mouse button above the touchpad)

If you wanted, you could plug in any USB (wired or wireless) mouse and it would work too. Thanks!

I have this exact laptop lol. Don't use it anymore because I dropped it off my bed and the screen stopped working. You can see light on the screen but that's about it. I finally moved my stuff over to my desktop from that laptop this weekend. ( Used my TV as the screen(= ) But while I used it it was a great laptop so bid accordingly guys!

If your LCD didn't crack then it might be a cheap easy fix! I love these Thinkpads because they are pretty durable - everything feels solid and the keyboard isn't flimsy, etc. TV-out is a neat feature that you never really got on older laptops. Thanks for your comments!!

No prob, this laptop should give you years of performance! And the charger is a new 72 watt genuine IBM OEM part instead of the 40W charger I started with, so that took care of the flicker. I remembered how much I liked this laptop as I was messing with it, but I don't need it -- use my work laptop for almost everything these days. Thanks for commenting and good luck bidding!!

KellyWelch, I forgot to answer your other question about the "Thinkpad" button. It starts the Access IBM utility (if you have it installed), which is a configuration utility. You can edit the registry to have it launch any other utility, though.

Another update: Battery life is about 90 minutes now! The battery just reports the wrong time remaining and could be replaced but not really necessary :)

A suggestion; I have an older Thinkpad with the same battery problem. There's a generic power utility that I downloaded from the Lenovo site that features a battery reset option; discharges the battery completely and recharges.
Ran thru the utility three times and took my battery from 20% capacity to 75%!

Thanks, I'll run the battery conditioning utility and let everyone know if it helps! I really appreciate it!

Not getting a response from the powers that be at Listia so I'll ask you guys. Is there a cap on how many credits you can buy? Havent been on very long so I haven't accumulated many, but I would like to bid on this...
Jan 9th, 2012 at 5:48:39 PM PST by
Original
Hi Dan, while I would love for you to bid on and win this auction, I will say that I feel like buying credits costs too much. I don't believe there is a limit on how many you can buy though.

I'd suggest you wait until the last few hours of the auction, see what the current bid is, and decide if it's worth the amount they charge for credits. There would be nothing worse than dropping a bunch of real money for credits, then bidding and NOT winning -- you'd be stuck with overpriced credits. Put more stuff up for auction here, build up credits, and you'll eventually find a similar item to this one.

Thanks for commenting! Cheers!

I was wondering if maybe you could tell me how to get the keyboard light to work? I have this same laptop, but mine does not turn on. Also, by the sound, there is a button that plainly reads "ThinkPad". What does that do, as well?

Sure, just press the "Fn" button and "PgUp". If you look at your PgUp key (or the one in my auction photo), you will see the blue light icon. It's super useful to have and I miss it on my newer, more expensive laptop!

Maybe I should ask more appropriately, would you lower the GIN price to 60,000 credits if I picked up and you didn't have to ship?
Don't want to break any rules...

I would love to, but I can't change my GIN amount. But if the winner chooses local pickup (with or without GIN), then I will definitely throw in some bonus items (like a 2GB flash drive, a DVI-to-HDMI adapter, and maybe some others.) Thank you, and good luck!
