The listing, KNITTING BOOK: Fisher Gansey's of the British Isles - Vintage Scots & English Sweater patterns has ended.
Offered here is a vintage 1987 knitting book consisting of years of British knitting techniques and the patterns used most often in historical garments. The 8 1/2 by 11 paper book has illustrations, directions and the history of each design. The author, Joyce A. Schneider, traveled to the Isles and immersed herself in the knitting culture in order the capture the historical essence of this book.
"The patterns for the decoration of these sweaters came from life. Some patterns represented the sea, the ropes that formed the rigging of the ships, marriage, family, the home and so forth. If you wish to become more familiar with these motifs, I have included a bibliography of reference material."
First edition, August 1987. In excellent structural condition with no rips, tears, missing pages. It shows very minor signs of age and a remnant on the front cover from the original price sticker. Has a couple of tiny written arrows on one page and a couple of penciled circles (erasable), that's all I could find and otherwise no writing or notes. No smell! No smoking!
I'm of Scots-Irish descent and this was my grandmother's knitting book of which she was greatly interested in keeping in the family. It's time for it to find a new family.
