The listing, GIANT! Rusty Old Skeleton Key has ended.

This old vintage skeleton key is over 6 inches long. Very rusty and corroded, but cool and pretty rare.

Does anyone in Listia-land know about old keys, what this might have been used for? Lady at the antique shop where I bought it said maybe a jailer's key?

from the look of it, it looks like it was just a regular skeleton key. But to find it in such a rusty, and corroded state is amazing. They can be bought in bulk if you want the shiny new looking keys. I prefer the wear and tear to be apparent. Fanning and watching for sure!!!

Thanks for commenting - I know nothing about skeleton keys, just that they seem to be harder to find as the years go by. My Mom used to collect them in the 60's, and I wish she still had those! I agree with you, the older-looking ones are more interesting.
