Update:
I am searching hard... but can't find no scratches on the glass. Very pretty glass, it must be crystal glass I think. It has a good working battery in it now. I am going to pull the dial out as if to set the time that way it stops ticking so the battery life will kick back on when pressed back in while setting it. So then it can conserve the battery.
