Very nice piece of snowflake obsidian. Obsidian is volcanic glass. Glass is an occuranxe when sand is melted to a certain point. Obsidian occurs when lava flows over the sands and soils and cools suddenly and rapidly, like meeting a body of water. Obsidian can have different colors mottled into it depending on what minerals are in the area. For example, mahagony obsidian occurs when there is iron in the sand. I can't remember what mineral causes snowflake obsidian.As you can see, this piece has many snow flakes and it is a nice piece. The last picture shows a quarter for size reference.
