Description

The listing, SWEET WILLIAM 20 SEEDS, PERENNIALS has ended.

Sweet Williams (Dianthus barbatus) are perennials that are can grow. It takes only 60 days from planting before the flowers appear, and they come in a variety of colors like pink, red, purple, violet and white. These flowers reseed themselves every year, quickly filling in the area if they are cared for properly. The flowers attract butterflies and birds to your garden.
Choose a planting site for the sweet William. Choose a location that receives full sun exposure, but the area can have a little shade and they will still grow.
Prepare the area where the sweet William will be planted. Dig the soil with a garden fork.Remove rocks, sticks or other debris in the soil. Level the ground with a rake.
Sow the seeds over the soil, with at least at least 2 inches of space between each one. Cover the seeds with 1/8 inch of soil. Water the soil gently with a sprayer or wand. Check the soil daily for moisture and water to keep the soil moist. It takes 5 to 10 days for the seeds to germinate.
Thin the sweet William to one every 6 inches when they are 3 inches tall. The sweet William that you remove can be transplanted into another area if you don't break the stem or hurt the root section. Also keep the weeds pulled, because they rob the soil of moisture and nutrients that the sweet Williams need to grow healthy
Water the sweet William when the soil is dry. Unless there has been ample rain, provide 1 inch of water weekly.
Deadhead some of the flowers to promote growth and encourage more flowering. If you want the sweet William to fill in, leave some of the flowers. They will go to seed and spill onto the ground, increasing your sweet William plants for next year, or you can gather the seed and start them indoors next Spring
