After research i found that the initials at the bottom mean this in reference to this maker ... hope this helps ... benedict silver company 1918. epns bm m (electo plated nickel silver)
thank you ever so much. This piece is a real puzzle! lol Whoever gets it, i hope it is used to the fullest! It is unique and some have come up with some good ideas what it could be. Thank you!
This is what the old folks used to call a salt cellar or a salt well !!! Back before they had salt shakers, they used to put the salt in these little bowls and you would use a small spoon and dip the salt out and sprinkle it on you food !!!
Oh i have seen those little spoons! I didnt know what they were. I thought maybe they were used for baby.. Salt cellar or potpourri vessel. hmmm, what a great idea!
Oh, and here's my guess as to what it is... It's a "wet" potpourri vessel. Anyone can look it up and see that this is how the not so pretty potpourri was contained. :) I'm bidding and fanned ya!
thank you! It makes sense that it very well could be a potpourri vessel. The lid is so ornate and no one would even know where the scent is coming from! lol I appreciate you telling me!
I've had it tested and it is silver, I think the flash on the camera affected the color of it a bit, I'll put up a picture of the marking tomorrow morning.
forgive me if i have mislead anyone. It was not intentional. If you get it and you dont want it..send it back. I really dont mind..this was not an intentional. If you want i can try to pull this piece, if you have bid on it.
Thank you all for bidding on this piece.I told one lady if i had kept it, i would have used as a centerpiece. Put a small votive candle in it, and soften the atmosphere when hubby and i have a dinner for just him and i.
I have a Benedict tray......my tray is silver plated and has some of the same designs that your's has....very nice piece....not worth too much but still very nice...
ty for sharing that with me. I inherited a few pieces that she had but this one was the most unique. I may put one more piece on,not sure, hard to part with any of it.
I just took my tray to an antique shop here in NC and they said it was worth about $150...I asked about the item you have on here and they said it sounded like an old sugar jar....very rare...you have a nice item here...
