It's about 24-32 ounces. From handle tip to handle tip about 7 inches, and the bowl is about 3.5 inches in diameter.

This is what the old folks used to call a salt cellar or a salt well !!!
Back before they had salt shakers, they used to put the salt in these little bowls and you would use a small spoon and dip the salt out and sprinkle it on you food !!!

Oh, and here's my guess as to what it is... It's a "wet" potpourri vessel. Anyone can look it up and see that this is how the not so pretty potpourri was contained. :) I'm bidding and fanned ya!

thank you! It makes sense that it very well could be a potpourri vessel. The lid is so ornate and no one would even know where the scent is coming from! lol I appreciate you telling me!

Though solid silver would be much more valuable, I have to say, this is still a very nice piece whether it is silver or silver plated.

I've had it tested and it is silver, I think the flash on the camera affected the color of it a bit, I'll put up a picture of the marking tomorrow morning.

**About the marking**

Tried getting a picture of the markings but the quality isn't there to the point where it is legible, it clearly reads BENEDICT 1918 though.

Thank you all for bidding on this piece.I told one lady if i had kept it, i would have used as a centerpiece. Put a small votive candle in it, and soften the atmosphere when hubby and i have a dinner for just him and i.
