Description

The listing, #2 20 Straight Neck Summer Squash Seeds - Home Grown and Harvested - 20 Seeds has ended.

The 1st photo is of the seed parent, that was left to grow way beyond the time when summer squash is usually picked, so the seeds would fully mature.

The 2nd photo, is the parent, with a smaller squash next to it, that is ready for picking.

The ONE parent squash this year, gave me 494 seeds!

Many people can grow and eat squash, from just the seeds of this one mature squash.

I can't stress enough, that if you grow something, leave one plant/fruit to go to seed, and save and share the seeds, so many can obtain food security, and fresh, local food.

My plants did well, with little care, and the fruit is ready quick, because it's harvested young, before it's fully mature.

The best stage to harvest summer squash, is when the rind, is shiny, and tacky to the touch. If it loses it's shine, it's going on to the mature stage. If left to really mature, then the rind will get almost rock hard, and the squash flesh will probably not be good for fresh eating.

I cut mine up into chunks and fed it to my pet rabbits.

If you leave one fruit to mature, you'll never have to buy seeds again, and have plenty of seeds to keep and share.

To process my squash, I cut it up, and ran it through a french fry machine, then diced up the "squash fries". But, I'm sure the squash fries could be eaten that way too.

I love this fry machine, as I use it for potatoes, sweet potatoes, squash, pumpkin, radishes, carrots, cucumbers, and many other uses.
