This is a beautiful tear shaped genuine pink red ruby silver marked 925 ring. it's set in a beautiful ring sz 8 ruby is 5/8"long almost 1/2"wide the ring is just under an inch wide & long nice big beautiful ring

This is a very lovely ring. You said that is sterling silver? I don't doubt that the ruby is a great ruby, but the previous owner must be wrong about the price. I have larger rubies than this one in solid gold that are just as gorgeous and they didn't cost me that much. I am not saying that the ruby is not valuable, because it is, just not $816.
That is very high for a ruby. I deal a lot in jewelery so I can assure you that the price is very inflated. Definitely a couple hundred though. It is definitely a beautiful ruby. Anyone who wins this will definitely get a valuable ruby. I wish you all the best of luck and bid high because the ruby will be worth it.

Love the ring, LOL wish it was my size. I read a lot of the comments and what you said about scratches. The info on that is easy for anyone to look up if they just took the time to do so. But anyway here it is:

Ruby has a hardness of 9 on Mohs scale of hardness . So any gemstone with hardness more than 9 would scratch a ruby and that includes, diamond, synthetic moizzanite and synthetic diamond.

Basicly that all means that if the original owner dropped in it a box with other rings that had harder stones it would have gotten stratched. The rest. 925 is sterling silver, and the actual value of the stone really shouldn't matter! It's beautiful!!!

fanned you...you're honest, as i am, in my jewelry sales, and i believe the person you received it from, i know who it is, btw, likes the credits she receives vs. telling the truth...i have the exact same ring...mine has no scratches, and it hardly appraised for $800....the other people that gave you that information, are correct and the previous owner definitely is not for the listed reasons...good luck on your auction!!! :) btw...please do not take anything i said to be insulting...it was definitely not meant that way!!! :)

I would also disagree about the ruby, I work in a Jewelry store, and that ruby is not flawless or having perfect clarity. The $800 range would be off, and I have sold even more solid rubies at my job, which aren't clear but tumbled and then set in a silver or gold setting, so your's would be no more than about $130, generously. But the ring is still very beautiful and it is still a ruby!! It's not every day you get such great gems here on Listia!
