Description

The listing, St. John's Wort Seed, (Hypericum Perforatum)Organic, Wildcrafted (tiny seeds-hundreds!) has ended.

In olden days it was believed this herb scared off witches and demons. Christianity has absorbed much of these pagan traditions. St. John's Wort' plays an important role in medical herbalism. It enjoys a great popularity as a natural anti-depressant. Aerial parts, collect when in flower, for the oil usually only the buds and flowers are used, though many people report good results with oil produced from the flowering tops.
It has a calming and sedative effect on the nervous system, an old remedy for headaches and migraine and can also be used to treat anxiety, melancholy and irritability, especially during menopause or for cases of PMS.
It was known as an excellent wound healer that could purify the wound and knit the skin together The expressed juice or a compress made from fresh bruised herbs is best, though modern herbalist are more inclined to use diluted tincture. The compress can be applied to treat wounds, cuts, bruises varicose veins and burns.
Fill a jar with flowering tops and cover with oil. Macerate for 2 weeks. Strain and press out the flowers, repeat the process using the same oil, but adding fresh flowers. This oil is used for treating sunburn, other mild burns, neuralgia, sciatica and rheumatic pain as well as sprains and strains, cuts, wounds, as well as muscle and nerve aches and pains. It is also said to reduce scarring.
There are some government restrictions regarding the importation of this seed into certain states. These regulations do NOT pertain to small private growers who are using this for their own herbal purposes. This plant will spread prolifically if left unchecked. Therefore, I highly recommend growing in containers.

Thanks! The oil is a real miracle, I'm glad to share my herbal extraction techniques, the secret is to put the jar full of flower tops in olive oil, IN THE SUN, for a month. This plant is called what it is, because of it's pigmentation's resemblence
to the Blood of St. John, the flowers are bright yellow, but when sun-extracted, the oil turns a bright red color.and it's sacred day to harvest is midsummer, or June21-23, longest day of the year, also called St. John's Day, in Biblical references. I have grown it and used the oil for years, with great results for pain of all kinds, and to heal wounds, etc. A few drops of the oil are good for depression, or a tea made of the flowers and leaves may be used.

Thanks and good luck! To whomever wins this auction, I always send a huge amount of seed heads in this auction, attached to their stems. Each seed head has hundreds of seeds in it, so literally their are thousands of seeds you are getting, the seeds look as tiny as specks of dirt. When you receive these, you crush just one of the dried seed heads open and you'll see what I mean. This plant is prolific, for this reason! You will also notice the distinct, pleasant aroma of the seed head when it is crushed open, your fingers will retain a "stickiness" from the oil in the plant. When extracted, the red oil has this lovely fragrance to it, but amplified, a great deal. I use it as a massage oil, it works wonders!
