it an IR remote for a cable box , it send a remote signal to a vcr to put it in record mode if you want to record a tv show when you are not home and you need the box to watch the show , like on a pay service

yea ive had alot of people give me diffrent answers but im pretty sure i got this with a camra or a phone.

I was gonna say this particular one looks like the same exact one that is from a TiVo Series 2 DVR. Also, older Sanyo and Sony Handycams used them for VCR hookups to turn on VCR to record when you hit record on the camera.
