Description

The listing, Very Unusual Error Coin ??? {See Below} has ended.

The Pics are the best i can get
Ive had this for awhile and still cant I D what kind of error this is
This entire coin is light gray and when looked at under 60 power lens it is Completely covered with microscopic pitting
All of the normal detail is there but everything is pitted
Looking at the rim edge..The outer layers of the coin extend farther out then the inner core..it looks as if you could peel off the outer layers though i havent tried to do that
Feel free to comment as i have no idea what kind of error this is
The tan color is due to my lighting

I ONLY SHIP TO THE U.S.

Im by no means an expert but without having the coin in hand it could be many things. Improper annealing error or sintered ofr simply could be missing its clad layer. Determining wether the laminate split off during or after processing would make a difference. If you have a coin shop nearby they could probably tell you wich error you have.
But its definitely interesting, ill be watching.

Thanks for Commenting Tabitha...The onlu info i have been able to find on pitting is that it occurs because of rusting in the steel dies that goes unnoticed in the very late stages of the minting process...The rusting is usually caught before the process is allowed to continue...Almost all of what is caught is in the Reverse of the dies due to the reverse dies lying flat and naturally collectng the moisture while the obverse hangs in the machinery and doesnt collect much moisture...This coin shows Equal pitting to Both sides...I cant find anything about why the layers look like an Ice Cream Sandwich where the outer layers are Way larger than the ice cream center

somebody may have tried to clean it with a low power acid....the acid makes small pit marks in the coins.....a lot of people do this with buffalo nickels too
