The National Flower of Barbados.

Though intensely complicated in design, this small shrub/tree with its 10" long stamens and brilliant sunset flowers are easy to grow.

Historically: 1966, Barbados won its Independence from Britain. Soon after, the ruby red flowers with their vibrant yellow margins were added to their Coat of Arms and the striking blooms named as Barbados National Flower.

Blooms Spring to Fall.
Perennial: Zones 8+ and higher.
Sow 1/4".
Full/Part Sun

Hi Dwayne :) Yes, you can grow them in pots. Just make sure they have good light and moist soil.

Secrets of germinating POBs:

1. Soak overnight (8-12 hrs), beginning in warm water, not hot.

2. Nick seed with tip of small sharp knife to only open the softened hull. I nick at a corner for some unknown reason. YMMV.

3. Sunlight is Required for germination. Sew seed Nick Down but leaving 1/3 to 1/2 of each seed above the soil.

Germination: 6 to 10 days

You're such a doll, Lazlo! Hope you're gearing up for some of your fabulous listings soon :0] If I may add a small amendment to #2: place soaked and nicked seed between 2 sheets of moistened paper towels and place in a clear plastic container (the one's from the deli work perfect) and then place under bright but indirect sunlight until germinated. Works every time.
