The Bass Pros is not your ordinary fishing show. Unlike bass shows geared toward the armchair fisherman, The Bass Pros is intended for anglers looking to add new tricks and tactics to their arsenal, as well as those looking for reviews on old, yet reliable tactics. Season One of The Bass Pros contains 11 episodes and over 4 hours of educational and entertaining footage taught by 7 legendary anglers that include Kevin VanDam, Rick Clunn, Stacey King, Edwin Evers, Woo Daves, Jason Quinn and Tim Horton. Each episode of The Bass Pros is broken into 3 parts: Fishin' N 4, In-Depth and Art of Angling. Fishin' N 4 is a four-minute lesson focusing on the basics of fishing a particular bait or ways to fish a particular type of cover or structure. In-Depth is the "meat and potatoes" of the episode, and as the name implies, it covers the basics, and then explores the subtleties of some particular aspect of fishing. Similar to Fishin' N 4, The Art of Angling is another short lesson; however, this section seems to cover more theoretical, scientific and generally overlooked aspects of fishing. One episode that has really improved my catch rate includes a lesson from Kevin VanDam on the relatively new shakey-head worm technique. VanDam shows how to choose the right worm and jig for the shakey-head technique, as well as how and when to use the rig. If you've not yet mastered this phenomenal fish-catching finesse presentation, this lesson alone is reason enough to check out the first series of The Bass Pros. Sure, it's nice to sit around watching fishing shows when you can't actually be on the lake. But if you want to add a little education to your entertainment, check out Season One of The Bass Pros -- you might be pleasantly surprised. With such a broad range of topics, there's guaranteed to be something for every bass angler on this DVD.
