Description

The listing, 13 Copper Pennies has ended.

For your consideration: a baker's dozen (13) copper pennies.

Four each dated 1978, 1979, 1980 and 1981. One wheat penny dated 1953.

A "D" below the date means the coin was minted at the United States government mint in Denver.
No letter below the date means it was minted at the Philadelphia mint. These 13 copper pennies are from either the Denver or Philadelphia mint.

Copper pennies are a great way to start a coin collection and also to invest in copper.

If you win this auction, you will receive the 13 pennies in these photos.
Questions & Comments
Original
The penny was made of 95% copper before mid-1982 and since mid-1982, it is made of 97% zinc with a copper coating. Copper is worth more than the zinc. Although it is illegal to melt US coins, many people are saving copper pennies.

The following calculation is from: http://www.coinflation.com/

$0.0249255 is the melt value for the 1909-1982 copper cent on January 25, 2012.
Total melt value is $0.01 for the 1982-2012 Lincoln Zinc Cent

That means that the copper in a penny is worth more than twice the face value.

I thought it would be interesting to offer 13 copper pennies - including a wheat penny. Google 'Copper Penny' - it is quite an eye opener as people are now buying copper pennies on Ebay and copper penny websites for more than the face value.

As gold and silver prices are rising, copper is a good way to start investing.
