Like New DVD in case 5.0 out of 5 stars: Captain blonde beard. Amazon Review By Rich Whitcomb on September 1, 2016 I absolutely LOVE this movie and have seen it about 50 times already and will watch it many more times to come. I think Matt Damon is a terrific actor and is one of my favorites. I'm not sure if this was his best movie though. I haven't read the book, but from what I hear is that it's better than the movie. The problems I have with this movie is the acting by this all star cast. I like how Mark Watney (Matt Damon) has the perfect attitude needed to keep himself from going insane and keep himself upbeat and try to make it home without losing it due to loneliness and listening to bad disco music, but I just didn't feel the emotion that he's supposed to make us feel when he's upset. The other things that bothered me was the acting by everybody else also. When I think of astronauts, I think of the most well trained and most disciplined people there are in the world. (Like the Apollo 13 crew) The crew in this movie didn't seem that way. I know jokes and trying to be funny during a serious time can sometimes make a situation better, but not during the absolute serious parts in this movie. A real astronaut would work the problem(s) instead of griping about what's going on until there's no more options left. I'm really not trying to down this movie or say anything bad, but the acting in this movie just didn't do it for me except when Mark is explaining what he's doing and what his next plan(s) are and being upbeat in those situations. I truly do love this movie, but the acting in this movie is really the only thing that bothered me.
