may be a silly question but which side does the winner paint or finish? The side you are showing first seems to have a decoration already on it. Where as the other side looks plain. I would be interested in wood burning some think on it.

The first picture is the side you will want to use. It has been sanded, the edges have been carved and then a torch was applied for the coloration on the surface. Wood burning wood be great on it. We did one for our church and the kids did graffiti style letters and painted them in.
