The listing, VINTAGE 1920 POSTCARD Orangerie Park Lake STRASBOURG FRANCE has ended.
Up for bid is a lovely old postcard of Orangerie Park Lake, Strasbourg, France.
During the French Revolution , the city of Strasbourg inherited a hundred and forty orange trees confiscated by the Republicans at the Château de Bouxwiller which did not survive the turmoil of the Revolution. Hence I guess the park name Orangerie. The lake was artificial, and dug during the late 1880s. Today there are only three orange trees left in the greenhouses of the park
Judging from the attire of the ladies in the rowboat, I'd say this card is from around 1918-20. It's in excellent unused condition, with one teeny corner stub.
Card will ship in a first class envelope which carries no tracking. Please be sure you are in agreement with this method of shipping before bidding.
